Short Bio

Leonardo Zuno was born in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico. Mr. Zuno is a graduate of SMU, having obtained two master’s degrees (in piano performance and pedagogy and in music theory). He studied piano under Dr. Richard Baca and Prof. Alfred Mouledous and piano pedagogy with Drs. Pete Jutras, Sam Holland, Cathy Lysinger, and Mr. Matthew Kline. His music theory training under Drs. Barbara Wallace, David Mancini, Jacquelyn Hale, and Robert Frank has had a significant impact on his pedagogical philosophy, as he seeks the integration of both disciplines to help students in becoming independent learners and complete musicians.

Mr. Zuno is an adjunct lecturer at the Meadows School of the Arts in SMU, where he has taught courses in music theory, aural skills, and class piano to both graduate and undergraduate students. Besides his college teaching, Mr. Zuno is a piano and music theory instructor at Dallas/Music, Inc., a private community school, where he teaches both individually and in group settings. He is a board member for Dallas Music Teachers Association, where he serves as the theory chairman and web coordinator. Mr. Zuno has also volunteered his time with Texas Music Teachers Association, writing theory tests for children across the state, and offering feedback to the theory advisory committee for TMTA. He also adjudicates around the DFW metroplex in festivals and constests. He has also taught theory and keyboard skills classes at the National Piano Institute for Teachers and Young Artists at SMU.

In his free time, Mr. Zuno enjoys running and cycling, cooking and entertaining friends, and going to live music events of all types.
