QUALIFICATIONS
Currently, I teach at Southern Methodist University
as an adjunct lecturer in music theory and class piano, and at Dallas/Music,
Inc. as a piano and music theory instructor.
I have completed two masterÕs degrees in music
from SMU in:
-Piano Performance and
Pedagogy (May 2005)
-Music Theory (May 2007), with a thesis titled BeethovenÕs Compositional Tendencies in
Selected Sonata-Allegro Movements for Piano. This thesis is a 181-page analysis of one of my favorite
theoretical topics.
After graduating with Summa Cum Laude honors from Dallas Baptist University, I entered
the SMU Meadows School of the Arts masterÕs program to study piano performance
and pedagogy. During my second
year at SMU, I started a second masterÕs degree in music theory. I believe that studying music theory
complements the study of piano: it has made me a better performer and
teacher. I have taught at both of
my Alma Maters as an adjunct
lecturer. I also serve frequently
as adjudicator for musical events across the DFW metroplex.
EDUCATION
1994-1998
Studied
at San Marcos Baptist Academy, where I graduated as the salutatorian
and
received a full scholarship for DBU.
1998-2003 Obtained
a BM degree in piano performance from Dallas Baptist University.
2003-2005 Studied
at SMUÕs masterÕs program in the Meadows School of the Arts, where I
completed
a masterÕs degree in Piano Performance and Pedagogy.

a second masterÕs degree in Music Theory, also from SMU.
Ongoing Active member of MTNA,
TMTA, and DMTA since 2004.
EXPERIENCE
Teaching
2002-2003 and Taught at The MasterÕs
Touch School of Music. It is
because of teaching at this
2004-2005 school
that I decided to pursue piano pedagogy as a career.
2003-2005 While
at SMU, I was awarded an assistantship in exchange for a 15 hr./week
internship
in the Piano Preparatory department at SMU, teaching children in
private
and group settings as well as college students in Class Piano and
privately.
The group classes I taught at the SMU piano preparatory program
were
for beginning through late intermediate students. I enjoyed working
together
with my supervisors to accomplish what I came here to do: become a
better
performer and piano teacher.
2005-Present I
am currently teaching at Dallas/Music, a vital music teaching community. I am
honored
to be a part of the faculty at Dallas/Music, where I have a full studio
and
5 group music theory classes.
2006 (Fall) Taught
at Dallas Baptist University as an adjunct lecturer in music theory.
2007 (Spring)-Present
At
the invitation of the class piano coordinator, I returned to Southern Methodist
University
to teach class piano as an adjunct lecturer.

At the invitation of the
chair of the theory department at SMU, I began to teach

access to my pedagogy library, named ŅThe Sam Holland Pedagogy LibraryÓ and
all
its contents of approximately 600 books and teaching materials. They will be able to

especially
with regard to repertoire selection.
